In 1645 werd begonnen met de bouw van Paleis Huis ten Bosch. Onder de Franse overheersing werd het paleis nationaal bezit. Vanaf de uitroeping van Willem I tot Koning der Nederlanden in 1815 is Paleis Huis ten Bosch regelmatig door leden van het Koninklijk Huis bewoond. Paleis Huis ten Bosch had tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog ernstig te lijden.
